Juliann Byron - Chairman

Juliann has extensive experience in the accounting and finance fields. She provided corporate secretarial, management and governance consulting services over many years, and is a nonā€‘executive director on public and not-for-profit company boards.

Juliann is a member of the Finance Committee, Staff Committee and the Audit and Governance Committee. As Chairman, she also attends other committee meetings as required.

Bob Stensholt - Deputy Chairman

Bob has had an extensive career in public service, including roles as a teacher, diplomat, Assistant Director General for AusAID and over 10 years as the state Member of Parliament for Burwood. Bob now consults to various boards and authorities on governance matters.

Bob chairs the Community Investment and Marketing Committee, and is a member of the Finance Committee and the Events Committee.

Dick Menting - Director

Dick was the foundation Chairman of Canterbury Surrey Hills Community Finance Ltd and previously spent 35 years in retail banking, finance and administration with a major bank and other companies. Dick recently retired as a councillor for Boroondara City Council and continues to run a local small business.

Dick is a member of the Finance Committee, Community Investment and Marketing Committee, and the Events Committee.

Damien Hudson - Director

Damien has over 10 yearsā€™ experience in local real estate. More recently, Damien established businesses provided management services to community organisations.

Damien chairs the Events Committee, and is a member of the Community Investment and Marketing Committee.

Daizy Maan - Director

Daizy was appointed to the Board in 2015.Ā Daizy has considerable experience working with and for youth organisations, particularly those with an entrepreneurial or social enterprise focus. She is currently studying commerce and law and making a meaningful contribution to the community through her involvement. Daizy was the Boroondara Young Citizen of the Year in 2015.

Daizy is theĀ Chairman of the Canterbury Surrey Hills Community Finance Limited Youth Advisory Committee.

Andrew Whittaker - Director

Andrew has over 40 years’ experience in a variety of professional services and senior executive roles. He was formerly a partner with PwC and Ferrier Hodgson and has worked across a variety of industry sectors, including banking, providing performance improvement and governance advice.

Andrew is a member of the Finance Committee and is Chairman of the Community Investment and Marketing Committee.

James Grant - Director

James has spent over 35 years in banking and finance, financial planning and dispute resolution in these areas.Ā  He has extensive client facing and senior management experience in banking and finance and wealth management products, services and their delivery to business and wealthy clients.

James is the Chairman of the Staff Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee.

Our Staff
Nick Coker - Senior Manager

Nick has been the Senior Manager for Canterbury Surrey Hills Community Finance Ltd since 2009, managing banking operations across all four branches. Nick is a career banker, having come to the Community BankĀ® network from one of the major banks. Nick drives the business plans for each branch in conjunction with each manager, and leads the community engagement programs.

NickĀ  attends all Board meetings and also attends committee meetings as required.

Nick Azar - Business Development Manager

NickĀ is one of two Business Development Managers. He can visit customers at their business or home to discuss their business banking or residential lending needs, including after hours and on weekends. Contact Nick on 0402 11 783 or .

His role is also to help build strong partnerships and improve relationships with our many community groups.

Gary Johnson - Business Development Manager

Gary is a Mobile Relationship Manager with over 20 years of experience in the banking and mortgage industry. Gary joined the Bendigo Bank group in 2009 and joined the CASH Group in 2017.

Gary works with his customers to find the most suitable finance package and provides an on-going banking service for his clients. Gary enjoys meeting with people in the local community to find outcomes that benefit both them individually and help grow our community as a whole. Anna Gration - Marketing Manager

Anna is the Marketing Manager supporting our four Community BankĀ®Ā branches. Anna joined our team at the beginning of 2016 after many years in various senior Marketing and Partnership Management roles. Contact Anna on 0411 326 908 or



Michael Sapountzis - Company Secretary

Michael was appointed as Company Secretary in 2017 and is the Chairman of the Audit and Governance Committee .

Michael has held management and corporate secretarial roles within NSX / ASX-listed and unlisted companies within the financial and professional services sector for over 10 years. Latest Community Projects

New Training Nets for Surrey Hills Cricket Club

Maggie Stamoulis, Manager of the Surrey Hills Community BankĀ® presented the Surrey Hills Cricket Club Coach/Captain Tim Foster with a sponsorship cheque for $8,500. The sponsorship will be used to fund the installation of retractable training nets at Surrey Park. Our ongoing support of the Surrey Park Sporting club precinct continues with funds of more than $23,000 provided to the Cricket Club to date.

Special day for children with a disability

Director Dick Menting and staff from the Balwyn Community BankĀ® branch attended the Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway special day for children with a disability. This annual event organised by the Rotary Club of Balwyn is a fabulous day for the carers and families and children with a disability.Ā  The Balwyn Community BankĀ® branch has supported this event for many years and we are always pleased to see the joy and delight on the children’s faces.

How many Piggies can you see?

We have a Winner!
As part of our involvement in the Surrey Hills Music Festival the Surrey Hills Community BankĀ® branch ran a competition to win a $500 bank account. Entrants had to guess the number of Piggy money boxes they could see lazing around in the inflatable pool. Our lucky winner was most excited to get the call she had guessed the correct number. A very happy new customer to the Surrey Hills branch.

Camcare program supports Parkhill Primary School

Kathy Koulouris, Manager of the Ashburton Community BankĀ® branch and Chairman Juliann Byron attended the Camcare Annual General Meeting and presented a cheque for $13,200 to Camcare Chief Executive Officer, Jane Broadhead.
The grant provided by the Ashburton Community BankĀ® funded the ‘Inspiring Warriors’ program being run at Parkhill Primary School. The program teaches emotional regulation and resilience.

Supporting Cricket Umpires

Maggie Stamoulis, Manager of the Surrey Hills Community BankĀ® branch and Director, Dick Menting presented the Eastern Cricket Umpires Association with a sponsorship cheque to President Chris Main.
Our contribution provides support for the senior club members and assists with the development of the cultural awareness program being run by the association. Over the years we have provided support to this association totaling $8,000.

Defibrillator for Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre

Kathy Koulouris, Manager of the Ashburton Community BankĀ® branch and staff member Madeleine Smith attended the Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre Annual General Meeting. They presented a cheque to the Centre Chairwoman Margaret Taylor and Co-ordinator Peter Nash. The funds provided by the Ashburton Community BankĀ® were put towards the purchase of a defibrillator.

There was rain,hail and sunshine at the 2017 Surrey Hills Music Festival. Despite the challenging and changing weather, many people came out to enjoy the fabulous musical program.

Chairman, Juliann Byron and Senior Manager, Nick Coker attended a gala dinner to celebrate 25 years of Swinburne University. Held in the Plaza Ballroom, the event celebrated the remarkable achievements of Swinburne peopleā€“ visionaries, trailblazers, connectors and challengers. The Swinburne story is one of great ambition and tremendous achievement. Our network of Community BankĀ® branches have a strong relationship with Swinburne University. We support the Centre of Student Leadership, provide leadership and volunteer awards and provide support to the Financial Inclusion Program for students in financial difficulty. We congratulate Swinburne on this wonderful achievement.

Kathy Koulouris, Manager of the Ashburton Community BankĀ® branch presented Camberwell Area Multiple Births Association (CAMBA) President Debbie Baydan with a cheque for $1,000 to support the group.
The room was full of twins and triplets with there parents and there were smiles all around.

Brian Nankervis hosts Music Festival kick off

The Surrey Hills Music Festival kicked off in style at the Emulation Hall in Canterbury last week. Brian Nankervis hosted festival favourites The Band who knew too much and Andy Layfield and the Sound.
The Surrey Hills Community BankĀ® branch is once again a Major Sponsor of the Music Festival which will be held in Surrey Hills from 17-19 November.Ā  The Community BankĀ® has provided more than $34,000 in Sponsorship of the Festival over the years. We look forward to a fabulous 2017 event.
